Healthy No-bake Chocolate Oat Bars
I am a sucker for healthy snacks and these healthy no-bake chocolate oat bars are the perfect snack when I crave chocolate. The base is a healthy oat layer sweetened with dates with a dark chocolate top layer. When you’re looking for healthy snacks always try and incorporate most ingredients that are nutrient and energy dense. This will help you balance that sweet and healthy aspect of snacks.
In this recipe I incorporated oats, coconut flakes, dates and cacao powder in the base. The oats provide healthy carbs and fiber while the coconut flakes are high in manganese, which is essential for bone health and the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and cholesterol. The dates help sweeten the oats naturally while the cacao powder add a healthy amount of antioxidants. Cacao powder is different from cocoa powder in terms of nutrients available. If you decide to use cocoa powder, use one that is unsweetened to get better nutrient composition.
I made the chocolate layer in this healthy no-bake chocolate oat bars from 85% dark chocolate. I sweetened it with honey for that sweet taste. Melted it in the microwave and then added a few tablespoons of honey depending on how sweet I wanted them. You can adjust the sweetness as you wish.
