Spirulina Iced Coconut Latte | Dairy free | Vegan
Are you looking for a morning coffee replacement? This Spirulina Iced coconut latte is dairy free, vegan. It’s also the easiest way to add spirulina in the morning while at the same time skipping your everyday coffee addiction. Spirulina is one of the most nutritious foods on earth but the most under utilized. You can find spirulina from Tiwani a company that grows spirulina in Kenya.
What is Spirulina?
Spirulina is a blue-green algae, It’s high in B vitamins and minerals like antioxidants, iodine, iron and magnesium. It’s also 60% protein and a complete protein with all essential amino acids. Essentially 1 tablespoon=4g of protein.
The big deal about Spirulina is that it detoxifies the body reason why it’s considered a ‘superfood’. Eaten directly, it’s not the most pleasant thing. When included into smoothies, drinks and desserts the taste is undetectable. I love the intense color, neutral flavor and health benefits it has and that’s why I add it to my recipes.
How to make this Spirulina Iced Latte
This dairy free, vegan, spirulina iced coconut latte will take you only 10 minutes to make and is perfect for those busy mornings and when you want to switch your coffee. I used coconut milk as I love the taste and the coconut also adds a good amount of healthy fats. I sweetened the latte with maple syrup because I was going for a vegan drink but feel free to substitute with honey or sugar. The overall taste is topped with some cinnamon powder that adds a sweet flavor and keeps blood sugars at bay.
