Spinach Colored Homemade Pasta Recipe

I love making pasta and although the process can be a little of a hustle the rewards are worth it. Homemade pasta is so easy to make and you get to control what you put in. This pasta recipe is super easy to make and colored with loads of spinach.

With only 4 ingredients this recipe delivers a fun colorful and flavorful pasta. You do not need a pasta machine to make this pasta and truthfully I have made pasta multiple times with just a rolling pin and knife.  You can make this recipe customizable by adding a variety of different greenery like; peas, herbs, kale etc.


How To Make This Spinach Colored Homemade Pasta Without A Pasta Machine

The pasta dough for tis recipe is so easy to work with. You just make the dough, rest it for an hour and divide into small portions then roll out each dough into paper like sheets . Dividing the dough into small portions helps roll it out easily and is manageable. You have to make the dough rest for at least an hour to ease handling the dough with your hands. When you roll out the dough into small sheets, you’ll be able cut the strips more easily.

Equipment Needed:

  1. Rolling pin-To roll the dough into paper thin sheets
  2. Baking sheet- To lay the sheets as they dry out
  3. Ruler- to measure equal strips
  4. Knife To cut the sheets into strips

Important Notes For This Spinach Colored Homemade Pasta

  1. Make the puree first by cooking the spinach slightly then blending them smooth.
  2. Make a well to hold the eggs, oil and puree.
  3. Rest the dough for at least 1 hour.
  4. Divide the dough into small portions .
  5. Every time you roll the dough into sheets, flour them and place them in a baking tray.
  6. Measure the sheets into equal strips with a ruler.
  7. Twist the strips into a nest and flour them to avoid tangling.
  8. Cook the pasta for 4 minutes in salted hot boiling water.

  • Rolling pin
  • Knife
  • Ruler


  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup Spinach puree


  • In a bowl add the flour and make a well in the middle. To make the spinach puree, cook them gently then blend them with a little bit of water.
  • Crack the eggs into the well and add the spinach puree and oil.
  • Using a folk start breaking the eggs as you pull the flour in until all the flour is well incorporated into a homogenous dough.
  • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes to a soft and not sticky dough.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic paper and let it rest at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, divide the dough into 6 equal small doughs. Work with one dough at a time and keep the rest covered with a kitchen towel.
  • Flour your working space and roll the dough into a long rectangle, almost paper thin and translucent that it could almost tear. Place this rolled dough on a floured baking tray and repeat with the rest.
  • When done rolling out the sheets, start cutting them into strips starting with the first one you rolled. This will give the rest time to dry out.
  • Using a ruler start cutting the strips uniformly using a knife.
  • As you finish each sheet, gently twist them into little nests to keep them from tangling and lightly flour them. Repeat for all sheets.
  • Boil water and salt it. The cook the noodles for 3-4 minutes, drain and serve.
